the first one

March 13, 2009

so i have this blog. and i’ve never had one before. i think blogs can be kind of intimidating, you know? the updates, the wit, the upkeep … but because i am soon moving to africa, i’ve decided to embrace the intimidation with the vision of having a place to express some thoughts on this journey God is walking me through. a place to share with you my curiosity. to ask questions like … what does it even mean to be called to missions? what does a faithful follower of Christ look like? i want it … how do we do it? plus, what does true community look like anyway? what does it look like to love people the way we’re supposed to? oh i love to process. oh oh and discoveries … you know, those little gems that you find here and there, good blogs, books, pictures, all that. love those little guys. i’ll share em, you get em and we’re both happy.

plus, here’s a confession for ya, right away on the first post … i have been missing my church family today. grace community church, you are such a blessing to me – have i told you lately? something i really appreciate about grace that’s one of those nonessential-but-totally-awesome-when-it’s-there qualities is the music chosen for sunday mornings. there’s so much depth to the songs jeff picks out, so much truth, meaning, and intentionality behind the words … i just love it. this morning i was listening to a song i had never heard of until going to grace and since it’s my very first post why not share some great words of a great song with you too, right? it blessed me, maybe it will bless you too …

You’re the word of God the father from before the world began
every star and every planet has been fashioned by your hand
All creation holds together by the power of your voice
Let the skies declare your glory Let the land and seas rejoice!

You’re the author of salvation
You’re the Lord of every man
And your cry of love rings out across the lands

Yet you left the gaze of angels, came to seek and save the lost
and exchanged the joy of heaven for the anguish of the cross.
With a prayer you fed the hungry, with a word you calmed the sea
yet how silently you suffered that the guilty may go free!

With a shout you rose victorious, wrestling victory from the grave
and ascended into heaven leading captives in you wake.
Now you stand before the father, interceding for your own
from each tribe and tongue and nation you are leading sinners home.

    Greetings from Botswana!

What a great blog. It looks like you have quickly overcome your feeling of intimidation! We have heard so many cool things about you from the Pettigrew family…we can’t wait to meet you in person. God is doing a lot here in Bots and we can’t wait for you to join with our team as we seek to join Him. If you have any questions that we can possibly answer for you before you arrive, please shoot us an email. We are praying for you as you finish the last week of ILC. Finish strong! God bless.
