did i move to seattle?

June 11, 2009

guys. it’s been cold and raining nonstop for three days. and i secretly love it. okay not so secretly it’s my favorite. and we actually have a fireplace in our house, so this week i decided would be my first attempt at building a fire. i couldn’t find fire starter so i had to burn some my little ponies and treasure troll coloring books that i found…its the coziest. don’t you just want to drink tea and read by this little guy?

love it.

so my language helper, dikabelo, lives in this part of town called old naledi. there are no paved roads and so when it rains for three days it becomes mudfest 2009. so i wore my chacos today (sarah, can you make a fist right now?) thinking…hmm rain. maybe i’ll get muddy so i better wear these just in case. park the car and start walking to the church to meet her and all of a sudden find myself stuck in mud. literally i can’t move. knees down in mud. finally im able to slide my foot out and then have to dig around in the mud to find my missing chaco. then i couldn’t stop laughing. then i was the crazy american stuck in the mud….it was ridiculous and awesome all at the same time. so today i learned how to talk about weather in setswana.

that fire is so jolly…and yes, sitting by that with a cup of tea sounds delightful! ps-if you have a dishwasher, just throw those chac’s in there and it’ll take the stank right out! do you have a dishwasher? ha! ps-i’ve had baja at least twice a week for the past month and i think i’ve gained 20 pounds…baja handles.
