christmas cheer

July 26, 2009

something you should know about botswana is that its the coldest in june and july. and i mean cold. like frost on my car kind of cold. so its the hottest of all hot in december and january. now hear me out, i know that christmas is not about snow or cold weather or drinking wassail on a chilly night or starbucks holiday drinks or chestnuts roasting on an open fire…i know the purpose of christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ (which by the way, we celebrate all year, right? i mean not just december 25th…) but come on, guys. you know there’s just something about the christmas season that is tied to those little things that you just miss when they’re not around and its 110 degrees outside. enter christmas in july! some of you may despise this, but i’m not gonna lie, it was pretty awesome.

we (pettigrew family and i) packed a full day and a half with all the extra parts about the christmas season we love. hehe!

1. elf – a must. no question. plus polar express, white christmas, christmas vacation and charlie brown christmas

2. christmas music – nat king cole, frank sinatra, bing crosby, you know all the goodies…

3. laura’s family has this tradition where on christmas eve they make all their favorite snack foods (sausage balls, chocolate covered pretzels, spinach artichoke dip, cheese ball, chocolate truffles, gingerbread cookies, spiced pecans…). definitely great.

3. christmas crafts! making and creating is the best.

4. christmas wassail by the fire

5. a full on christmas meal – i mean we’re talking turkey and everything.

6. christmas cheer + elliot pettigrew + photobooth effects = awesome (fyi in real life elliot really does have a neck)

Cara, I’m proud of you for posting on the blog post that probably made you… well, we all remember that time you tried to hide the Christmas movie from us until Thanksgiving.

Keely I love it!!! I’m proud of you guys for embracing your desire for festivities. I will be sure to video some of the extreme cold and extreme festivities I experience in the City when the time comes.
Yay for Christmas cheer (and cheer for Jesus all the time, not just Christmas)!

Also, Cara made chicken and dressing last night which reminds me of Christmas. And she let me listen to Christmas music when I was interviewing her for our annual “Maddox Christmas in July” gift interviews. We do that so that we dont have to ask what each other wants in December. More surprises that way.
