don’t be fooled, this is why people really have kids

September 12, 2010

last weekend i went on a pettigrew family road trip/double birthday celebration of andy and lili/get away mini vacation to joburg. the first day we arrive, laura suggests stopping by montecasino. it’s like the opryland hotel of south africa. inside there are cobblestone walkways, fun restaurants, trees, etc…

first, we had heard rumor that there was a starbucks, so naturally our number 1 priority was to find it. so misleading. they brew starbucks coffee, which is not the same as being an actual starbucks. none the less we couldn’t pass up the experience of holding a to-go starbucks cup in hand, so i ordered a peppermint mocha and had myself a little christmas in a cup. then we were off to explore. bummer – the bird sanctuary we were planning on seeing was closed. what to do?

i stopped into a shop to look at some things and told the pettigrews i’d catch up with them in a minute. when i came back out they had decided to stop at this awesomely GIANT arcade. now you guys need to know that lili and elliot never get to do this kind of stuff. nothing like this exists in botswana. imagine with me maybe your first trip to chuck e cheese. the extreme excitment. everywhere you look there are games to play, tokens to use, balls to jump in, things to hit with giant mallets, tickets to get, prizes to win. experiencing a child’s first arcade experience is awesome.

FACT: sometimes spontaneity is the BEST.
